Provenance: W. Koller, Vienna (1872, L.2632).
Literature: Bartsch 9. Hollstein, 9 (III/III). De Vlieger was one of many Dutch seventeenth-century artists that travelled to Italy. The village shown here,
with its large, archivolted ruins, could well have been the sort of Mediterranean villages the artist encountered on his travels. A good impression of the third and final state of the print, on seventeenth-century paper.
Some flattened folds and spots seen verso. Rare. |
