Marker visser (fisherman from Marken)

Drypoint on copper, 1896
Exceptional impression in brown on creamy velin paper.
Signed and annotated in ink “JThToorop” and “un pecheur de l'ile de marken (eau-forte.point-seche) par JthToorop) (le tout dernier exemplaire, le cuivre n'existe plus”
28.7 x 22.5 cm. with margin all round.

Literature: Catalogue Verbeek, Rijksprentenkabinet Amsterdam, 24.

Excellent rather soft impression in brown. Probably unique. The plate tone is used in places and resembles the vernis-mou mentioned in the impression a. by Verbeek. The signature in the plate misses and is most probably masked off. In contrast to the written note on the print the plate was not destroyed and is now in the print room in Amsterdam. There exist 25 posthumous impressions by Ninaber van Eyben made in 1928.
