9.4 x 15.8 cm. trimmed around the plate mark.

Extremely rare print in a very fine impression with subtle plate tone.
The painter and etcher Leendert van der Cooghen was born in 1610 into a noble Haarlem family
related to the house of van Beresteyn.
As a young man he studied in the workshop of Jacob Jordaens. The rest of his life he spent in Haarlem.
He joined the St Lucas guild in 1652. His paintings are as rare as his etchings.
He made only 14 prints all between 1664 and 1666.
The backgammon players show the infl uence of Italian artists like Caravaggio or Rosa.
The lady standing behind the left player is a typical Dutch element.
