Nowell-Usticke 52 1(II). Very uncommon. |
|
A rare print in this earlier impression. The uneven grain at the top, according to Nowell-Usticke due to sulphur-tinting, clearly visible. Rembrandt depicted the subject several times in 1651 and again in 1654. Rembrandt used the elaborate formal way of signing only for this print and The Good Samaritan of the same year.
Only the first state is considered to be completely by Rembrandt
