REMBRANDT VAN RIJN
1606 Leiden – 1669 Amsterdam

The Shepherd and his family.
“’t Hardertje”

Etching and drypoint, 1644.

Signed in the plate upper left “Rembrandt f. 1644”
Excellent impression and condition.
Small thin spots strengthened.
9.5 x 6.8 cm. small margin around the platemark.

This is Rembrandt’s only dated print of 1644. In this period his was interested in landscapes. This small landscape with the high mountain with castles in the background has an Italianate/arcadian feeling about it. In the background one also can see traces of two circles.
Probably Rembrandt used an older copperplate.
This nice lively impression has still some traces of burr.
