Portrait of the artist and architect Lambert Lourijsen.

Signed top right “JH Toorop” and dated 1926 (in another hand)
Provenance; Estate of the artist Ben Viegers.
 
Viegers was a collegue and member of the Pulchri Society in The Hague.
The members of the Viegers family always thought it to be a selfportrait of Toorop.
Mr. Gerard van Wezel suggested Lourijsen as a probable subject. Lourijsen (1885 – 1950) met Toorop in Domburg.Toorop used him as model for St Paul.
Together they worked on the decorations for the new St Bavo church in Haarlem.
