Very good impression, rich in contrasts.

Impressions of this print are very rare indeed. A very small edition has been printed by Le Blond, whose address appears on most of the known impressions ( see cat. Jacques Bellange, Printmaker of Lorraine, British Museum, 1997, p. 110). In this case this address can have been trimmed, so however fine the impression, we can’t be sure if it is a first or second state. Bellange’s prints were high valued by contemporary artists. Already c. 1616 copies after the Hortulanae were made by Matthaeus Merian with added landscapes and texts in the lower border.
