Fine impression on thin Japanese paper laid down on stronger paper.
Some spots hardly visible. One of the most famous prints by Mesquita, but very rare. Only 6 impressions were traced by Van Es.
This impression had on the cardboard backing a price of 65 guilders (Mesquitas handwriting), rather a lot of money at that time. The old newspaper in the frame was dated 1921. |

| It was his pupil M.C. Escher, who wrote about the Zebra it was like yesterday that I heard him say a zebra is a living woodcut and one should not try to make another woodcut from this subject. |
