Signed within oval, bottom right: “HG”. Imperial privilege and date within oval, at lower left: “Cum privil. Sa. Cae. M. / Anno 1596”. Numbered “1” at the bottom right. Dedication in cartouche in margin, at cenre: “Mag.eo ac Clar.mo uiro D[omi]no Joan[m]I Secretario D[omi]no suo obseruandissimo. / H. Goltzius officij et gratitudinis ergo / D.D.” Two Latin distichs in margin: “Qu[a]ecunq[ue] in terries … Filia chara Deo.” Signed at bottom right: “C. Schon[a]eus”.

| Part of a series of Three goddesses, together with Venus and Cupid, and Juno. In lower background scene, Minerva entrusts the winged horse Pegasus to the care of the Muses. The attributes of the deity as goddess of warfare and protector of the sciences and wisdom are depicted in the corners. |

Bartsch attributed the series to Jan Saenredam, Hirschmann to Goltzius. In Hollstein under both Goltzius and Saenredam. Attributed to Goltzius by Filedt Kok (Goltzius studies, 1993, pp. 188-89, no's 106.1-3).
