| An allegory on the reign of Philip II and the Ottoman invasion. The verse alludes to the hopes of victory over the Turks. Floris has based his design for this scene on his painting for one of the triumphal arches of for the Pompa Introitus - the festive entry of Philip II into Antwerp in 1549. It is only etching made by Frans Floris himself, signed “frans floris fecit” |
