Fine impression. The only known impression.
The swann was known from an exhibition in 1916 (no. 155) and
from the list of works by R.W.P de Vries (no. 76).
There exists a preliminary drawing in the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam.
Van Es presumes that the print belonged to a group of woodcuts published
by De Bois in Haarlem in 20 or 25 impressions. All the others were known to
me or Van Es, but this one not. |
